Attributes and why?
I am going to list these in order of importance and give a brief description on why it's useful, aswell as list all the stats that it helps.


1. Speed :- The top attribute for a CB in my opinion, this is very important! Ultimately you will want to max this at 100 as soon as you can but without leaving yourself too low on Agility and Strength. It is however possible to leave Spatial, Endurance and Accuracy behind a bit while you do this.

(A) Movement Rate - Used to obviously catch up to FW's and for running back to defend.

(B) Jumping - This is very important, a CB who has low Jumping will be a poor CB indeed when it comes to corners, covering headers for the CF or Wingers in 7's/11's and headed clearances.

(C) Interceptions - This means how well you can control the ball if you intercept a pass or shot. This is useful because you will often be trying to intercept passes coming from the Opposition Defense to their Forwards. You also may be able to stop shots from crossing the line

(D) Pass Timing - This is for pre-passing with space aswell as being able to space pass the ball where you intented too, remember rarely space pass in Defense in 7's/11's unless the player is unmarked, you can however space pass when at the halfway line upto the CF or Wingers who in turn should hopefully pre-pass to the CF or another Winger. What it also means is, if a player is on the run when you pass with space, your pass may go too far or hit off his back, that's only if the target player has bad Ball Control as that affects your first touch.


2. Agility :- This is very important for a number of reasons, 7 in total. So you will want this at 100 fairly fast, maybe by the time your 70.

(A) Tackling - One of the key attributes for a CB. Helps to get that ball back from the Opponents with high Hardiness or Ball Control. Just get real close and LMB! It is easier to tackle from the side of the player than from behind and even easier to tackle from the front!

(B) Jumping - Which I have already explained about above. Although remember it does not increase Jumping as much as Speed does. The general rule is that the more Match Play attributes that one main Attribute puts up, the less it affects them!

(C) Slide Tackling - Now I know this can be very dangerous when used in the box but if timed right you can use this to block passes meant for a pre-shoot at goal, I have though on some rare occasions scored an OG doing this but rarely, I would say I have stopped more goals than I have scored OG, put it that way. Only ever use this in the box if your 99% sure you can make the Slide Tackle count without fouling. Soon a new patch will introduce Red Cards for Slide Tackles from behind, so use with caution. I actually find this most useful for passing when I know I will not get to the ball in time. I will slide into the ball, to pass to the GK or another teammate.

(D) Ball Control - This is your main way to resist those annoying 'insta-tackles' (Instantly being tackled back after you succesfuly tackle a player) so this helps in giving you more time so that you can turn and clear the ball after a succesful tackle.

(E) Kicking Accuracy - This is for accurate clearances, if you have time on the ball and are trying to aim for a specific area of the pitch. If you have an Opposition Forward near you just turn, mouse up and double click the LMB! Usually when playing against tough Opposition you may just want to turn and clear the ball with a high LMB full power kick everytime.

(F) Anticipation - This is for pre-passing mainly and how well you can control the ball when passed too. As a CB it's more about pre-passing headers from corners and stopping your player going in the wrong direction for a header.

(G) Interception - Explained above and also Speed gives you more per point in Interception than Agility does.


3. Strength :- As a CB you will be needing this for all 3 of the Attributes it gives you. This is mainly for clearances and Hardiness to help stop being 'insta tackled' but also helps your recover faster after sprinting back to defend. Fairly Important also for 'bumping' opposition players off the ball, so you can gain control and either clear or pass depending on where you are on the pitch.

(A) Kicking Power - This Attribute affects how fast the ball moves in the air but also affects shots at goal. So this is important because it affects how far and fast your clearances will go. Also I sometimes but very rarely, if we are losing and not looking like we are going to score, go forward and try my luck from distance at goal.

(B) Hardiness - When running with your back to the opposition, a high Hardiness can make you very hard to tackle. So this for a CB is very useful when you are running towards your own goal to LMB pass back to the Goalkeeper (GK). A high Ball Control + Hardiness = very hard to tackle!

(C) Recovery Rate - Explains itself really, this is how fast you recover your Stamina. Useful for when your under pressure alot, you will get the best use from this when they are taking corners, when you are under constant attack.


4. Spatial :- This skill in terms of a CB is mainly for Tackling and timing Jumping for headers correctly. Poor Spatial leads to poorer Anticipation which means you will move the wrong way when it comes to pre-headers on corners or pre-header clearances. It is fairly important to keep this at a decent level early on and then raise it later but with high Agility you can leave this lower until you have Speed and Agility at 100. When I say lower I mean around 50-60.

(A) Tackling - Already explained above under Agility but more per point than Agiliity.

(B) Anticipation - Again already explained above under Agility but more per point than Agiliity.

(C) Ball Control - Again already explained above under Agility but more per point than Agiliity.

(D) Shooting Accuracy - Shooting Accuracy helps you to shoot more accurate while you are marked by another player. Not very useful for a CB unless you are a poor one.


5. Accuracy :- Can be quite useful for a CB so I tend to keep this a little behind Spatial because of the Kicking Power, KIcking Accuracy and of course Slide Tackling. Pass Timing is also quite useful. Accuracy is however one of these attributes that has many Match Play attributes associated with it and does not include Jumping or Tackling so that is why I have it low on my list.

(A) Slide Tackling - Explained above. Just remember that the more Match Play attributes a Main Attribute has, the less effect it has on them.

(B) Kicking Power - Explained above.

(C) Kicking Accuracy - Guess what? Explained above!

(D) Pass Timing - This is ... yes that is right, explained above!

(E) Shooting Accuracy - Useless skill for a CB, cannot stress this enough but it's pretty obvious!


6. Endurance :- Endurance is pretty useful, probably more so than you think but we cannot raise every skill at first so I tend to keep this around the same as Accuracy. Helps your Recovery Rate, Stamina and Hardiness. These are all useful defence atrributes.

(A) Stamina - This increase the actual size of your Stamina Bar making it possible for you to sprint longer without running out of energy and just relying on your normal speed. Useful? Of course it is but there are just more useful Match Play attributes for you to worry about. Only Endurance affects this Match Play attribute.

(B) Recovery Rate - As explained above, although Endurance is equal with Strength when it comes to giving you the most per point into this Match Play Attribute when increased.

(C) Hardiness - Also explained above, although Endurance is equal with Strength when it comes to giving you the most per point into this Match Play Attribute when increased.

Skills and Information.
The right tools for the right job are important, without them you put yourself at a big disadvantage to the top players on the server. I mean the Shooting Accuracy Skill would be a totally useless skill for a CB and would be like using a nail file to clean your teeth with!

Below you will find a list of all the Skills available in the game except the Boosts and the Uniques because I think they are a complete waste of my time explaining to you, as in my opinion, you should never use them as they take away valuable Stamina that you will need for getting back to defend counter-attacks and as far as Uniques go (Until they fix this but it's been two years and still the same!) the animation is slow, causing them to usually fail.

One thing to remember is that Skills can take you over 200 in a Match Play Attribute!

I will highlight how useful or how very not useful each Skill is for a CB and then list them in Alphabetical order from each Trainer with the Ranks and what each Rank gives. I have given you insight above into what each attribute does in terms of a CB so for this reason I feeI that I will not be telling you what Skills to take as this is a personal choice and you only can choose eight in total, so choose wisely! :-


1. Attack Training Skills :- Believe it or not there are Skills here that are useful for a CB!

(A) Anticipation Training - This Skill comes in 5 ranks and simply increases your Anticipation Match Play Attribute by a certain percentage.

Rank 3 > 15%
Rank 4 > 25%
Rank 5 > 35%

(B) Hardiness Training - This Skill comes in 5 ranks and simply increases your Hardiness Match Play Attribute by a certain percentage.

Rank 1 > 5%
Rank 2 > 10%
Rank 3 > 15%
Rank 4 > 25%
Rank 5 > 35%

(C) Keepie-Uppies Training - This obviously helps you to pass better, aim Freekicks where you want them to go, aswell as helping you Sprint for longer. It affects your Accuracy & Endurance and comes in 3 ranks.

Rank 1 > 4 Accuracy & Endurance.
Rank 2 > 8 Accuracy & Endurance.
Rank 3 > 16 Accuracy & Endurance.

(D) Shooting Accuracy Training - This Skill comes in 5 ranks and simply increases your Shooting Accuracy Match Play Attribute by a certain percentage. I am only listing this because it is there, in no way do I recommend this for a CB!

Rank 3 > 15%
Rank 4 > 25%
Rank 5 > 35%

(E) Trick Training - This obviously helps your Movement Rate, Heading, Tackle & Slide tacklling aswell as many other benefits that are useful to you. A must have Skill for any CB! It affects your Agility & Speed and comes in 3 ranks.

Rank 1 > 4 Agility & Speed.
Rank 2 > 8 Agility & Speed.
Rank 3 > 16 Agility & Speed.


2. Defense Training Skills :- Obviously all of these Skills are useful for a CB but some more than others!

(A) Clearance Training - This helps with Clearances whether it be from a header from a corner or a high LMB kick Clearance. It comes in 3 ranks that are listed below.

Rank 1 > 4 Spatial & Strength.
Rank 2 > 8 Spatial & Strength.
Rank 3 > 16 Spatial & Strength.

(B) Interception Training - This Skill comes in 5 ranks and simply increases your Interception Match Play Attribute by a certain percentage.

Rank 1 > 5%
Rank 2 > 10%
Rank 3 > 15%
Rank 4 > 25%
Rank 5 > 35%

(C) Set-Piece Training - This obviously helps you aim and then kick Freekicks where you want them to go. It affects your Agility & Strength and comes in 3 ranks.

Rank 1 > 4 Agility & Strength.
Rank 2 > 8 Agility & Strength.
Rank 3 > 16 Agility & Strength.

(D) Slide Tackling Training - This Skill comes in 5 ranks and simply increases your Slide Tackling Match Play Attribute by a certain percentage.

Rank 1 > 5%
Rank 2 > 10%
Rank 3 > 15%
Rank 4 > 25%
Rank 5 > 35%

(E) Tackling Training - This Skill comes in 5 ranks and simply increases your Tackling Match Play Attribute by a certain percentage.

Rank 4 > 25%
Rank 5 > 35%

(F) Weight Training - A simple Skill that increase your Strength directly. This Skill has 3 ranks. Just remember that Strength helps you bump people off the ball aswell as giving you a stronger LMB Clearance. Also gives you a better Recovery Rate and Hardiness.

Rank 1 > 5 Strength.
Rank 2 > 10 Strength.
Rank 3 > 20 Strength.


2. General Training Skills :- There are some useful skills here for CB without a doubt!

(A) Jumping Training - This Skill comes in 5 ranks and simply increases your Jumping Match Play Attribute by a certain percentage.

Rank 1 > 5%
Rank 2 > 10%
Rank 3 > 15%
Rank 4 > 25%
Rank 5 > 35%

(B) Kicking Power Training - This Skill comes in 5 ranks and simply increases your Kicking Power Match Play Attribute by a certain percentage.

Rank 1 > 5%
Rank 2 > 10%
Rank 3 > 15%
Rank 4 > 25%
Rank 5 > 35%

(C) Recovery Rate Training - This Skill comes in 5 ranks and simply increases your Recovery Rate Match Play Attribute by a certain percentage.

Rank 1 > 5%
Rank 2 > 10%
Rank 3 > 15%
Rank 4 > 25%
Rank 5 > 35%

(D) Rowing Machine Training - A simple Skill that increase your Endurance directly. This Skill has 3 ranks. Just remember that Endurance increases the size of your Stamina Bar, helps your Recovery Rate and Hardiness.

Rank 1 > 5 Endurance.
Rank 2 > 10 Endurance.
Rank 3 > 20 Endurance.

(E) Target Practice - A simple Skill that increase your Accuracy directly. This Skill has 3 ranks. Just remember that Accuracy helps you aim better with Clearances and helps with Pass-Timing.

Rank 1 > 5 Accuracy.
Rank 2 > 10 Accuracy.
Rank 3 > 20 Accuracy.

(F) Team Exercise Training - This helps you with a bigger Stamina Bar, more Hardiness, to recover Stamina faster, defend Corners and to time pre-passing headers better aswell due to a higher Match Play Anticipation. It affects your Endurance & Spatial and comes in 3 ranks.

Rank 1 > 4 Endurance & Spatial.
Rank 2 > 8 Endurance & Spatial.
Rank 3 > 16 Endurance & Spatial.


4. Possession Training Skills :- Some crucial Skills here for a CB, can you spot them!

(A) Ball Control Training - This Skill comes in 5 ranks and simply increases your Ball Control Match Play Attribute by a certain percentage.

Rank 1 > 5%
Rank 2 > 10%
Rank 3 > 15%
Rank 4 > 25%
Rank 5 > 35%

(B) Kicking Accuracy Training - This Skill comes in 5 ranks and simply increases your Kicking Accuracy Match Play Attribute by a certain percentage.

Rank 1 > 5%
Rank 2 > 10%
Rank 3 > 15%
Rank 4 > 25%
Rank 5 > 35%

(C) Obstacle Training - A simple Skill that increase your Agility directly. This Skill has 3 ranks. Just remember that Agility is very important for CB and helps you in many ways!.

Rank 1 > 5 Agility.
Rank 2 > 10 Agility.
Rank 3 > 20 Agility.

(D) One-Two Training - This helps your Speed and Accuracy and comes in 3 ranks, need I say more?

Rank 1 > 4 Accuracy & Speed.
Rank 2 > 8 Accuracy & Speed.
Rank 3 > 16 Accuracy & Speed.

(E) Pass Timing Training - This Skill comes in 5 ranks and simply increases your Pass Timing Match Play Attribute by a certain percentage.

Rank 1 > 5%
Rank 2 > 10%
Rank 3 > 15%
Rank 4 > 25%
Rank 5 > 35%

(F) Peripheral Vision Training - This affects your Spatial only and comes in 3 ranks. Spatial is kind of important for a CB but with so many other useful skills, it really is upto you and your current Spatial on whether you think this is worth taking!

Rank 1 > 5 Spatial.
Rank 2 > 10 Spatial.
Rank 3 > 20 Spatial.

Boots & Stats and why they are useful!
Just so you know I have not listed the boots in any particular order. The boots you wear really comes down to what skills you take and what your current weakness or strengths are.

The choice is totally upto you!

(A) Puma Powercat 1.10 FG (22 Kicking Power and 18 Ball Control) - These boots could be used for stronger clearances aswell as protection from being 'insta-tackled' These will cost you 1350 FSC at the Puma Shop. Bonus Fame when bought!

(B) Puma v1.10 FG & Puma v1.10 I FG (22 Speed and 18 Accuracy) - You can use these as a makeshift pair of boots if you have low Speed to help with Movement Rate and Jumping and the Accuracy does help you slightly with harder more accuracte clearances aswell as slightly better Slide Tackling and Pass Timing. These can be purchased at the Puma Shop for 1655 FSC. Bonus Fame given if you buy the Puma v1.10 FG, Black, White and Red ones.

(C) Reebok Valde SG (18 Kicking Power and 9 Accuracy) - These are the cheaper and in my opinion, more attractive option to the 'Reebok Valde Pro' Boots. Benefits are the same but to a slightly lesser extent of course, explaination below. The cost is 880 FSC and they are available at Athlete.

(D) Reebok Valde Pro (22 Kicking Power & 11 Accuracy) - These boots are very useful for more harder and more accurate clearances. Aswell as slightly better Slide Tackling and Pass Timing. These are my boots of choice because I have Speed maxed at 100. They cost 1080 FSC at Athlete.

(E) Reebok KFS Sprintfit Lite (22 Ball Control & 11 Agility) - There are two versions of these boots so make sure you goto the 'Improved Boots' person and not the 'Standard Boots' person! They come in handy for when you need that extra bit of Agility along with all the benefits a higher Agility gives you and because of the extra Ball Control they also help against the dreaded 'insta-tackle' which means being tackled right after after you just tackled the ball yourself. Very viable boots for a CB. These are available at Athlete and will set you back 1080 FSC.

(F) Improved Tackling Boots (18 Tackling) - A basic pair of boots that simply boost your Tackling directly. These are cheap at only 450 FSC and available at Athlete.

(G) Improved Jumping Boots (18 Jumping) - A basic pair of boots that simply boost your Jumping directly. These are also very cheap at only 450 FSC and again available at Athlete.

5's Tips!

5's as a CB is a simple job when you know how to do it. As a CB in 5's I always stay back usually just near their most furthest forward attacker. When we are on the attack, I will go up to the haflway line and be ready to head the ball to a team mate if they clear although sometimes you may get a camper! (A Forward who just stays near your own box)

If you have a camper you must mark them because otherwise if their Goalkeeper makes a save and kicks out the ball to that Forward you are now standing in front of them and them behind you. You should never let any Forward get behind you!

When they are on the attack, I will look for the furthest forward attacker and stand near him (marking). You must let the CM goto the ball and let them try to win the ball back. If they fail then you probably have 2 Forwards to deal with. It is usually best to mark the 'final pass' that they will try to do for a simple pre-shoot goal.

You can try and backup the CM if you are already fairly fast and try to win the ball back if it is easy Opposition but when it's hard Opposition, just remember it is harder to score a solo shot than it is to score from a simple pass and pre-shoot. So all in all while defending mark that 'final pass'!

Let me explain the pass and pre-shoot so that you understand better what I mean. One Forward will try to get to the edge of the box and roll the ball in front of the other Forward using a low LMB pass for them to simply blast the ball into the goals. This is called the 'final pass' and this is the pass that you must stop. To do this stand in front of the pass target in between them and the other Forward and the likely direction of the pass. Now what to do when they pass?

You can do one of three things. One way is to have a pre-pass loaded to the Keeper or another way is to have a pre-pass setup towards a Forward in a more forward position or you can simply like in 7's do a high LMB kick Clearance by aiming the mouse high and double-tapping the LMB to clear the ball upfield.

7's Tips!

7's has 3 CB and not one like in 5's. Normally either the RCM or the LCM, gets called the CB or CCB (Central CB). The CCB will drop back to DF in between the LCB and RCB to form a 3 CB line. Normally the other 2 CB keep in line with the CCB while we have the ball.

Firstly in 7's you cannot space pass to the keeper. So to pass back to the keeper in normal situations, just keep your mouse down and give the LMB a slight tap if close or full power if further away from the keeper, just enough power so that it goes close enough to the keeper, you can also use a middle LMB pass with about half power to 3/4 power, back to the keeper if further away.

While in Defense the Opposition will usually use a high in the air kick over the Defensive line which forces the CB's to sprint back to cover the Opposition CF and Wingers running into our half. While it is important to cover them, that does not mean that every CB runs back into our box, as that just makes it's very easy for them, as you are now playing them all onside. You should still be in line with their furthest forward CF or Winger. When that Winger or CF tries to pass forward and if we are organised enough, we can try catch them Offside, known as the Offside Trap, (OT or OFF) by pushing up just at the right moment as they try to pass to a teammate.

The central CB is responsible for timing this properly and if the RCB and LCB are paying attention and move up when the central CB does it can result in an Offside Trap which will result in giving us a handy Indirect Freekick. I must stress though that this is hard to do and it takes some practice playing with the same defence to get it right and it can be costly if you get it wrong as they will now be behind our defensive wall in good positions.

Another tactic they will try to use is the old 'click the left mouse button and sprint' from 5's. Fast Wingers or the CF will try to exploit this by clicking the LMB just at the halfway line and sprinting past our DF line, keeping themselves onside, this in turn forces us to cover them and run back to cover, at this point our 2 Wingers should be moving back slightly into our own half to be ready to receive passes from our CB's.

All CB should be running back and keeping in line but remember it's is the job of the CB nearest to that Winger or CF that should be the one that runs back to try to get the ball back and every other CB just stay in line with them and cover their own man. It is only when we have the ball that you keep in line with our central CB. The other CB should be staying in their zones but in line with the CB covering the on-running Winger or CF, as keeping our shape is very important. If every CB runs toward the ball it leaves gaps everywhere in our DF for them to easily exploit.

Never ball chase, also mark your man! You can sometimes cover for a teamate in a dire situation when you know for sure they are not going to catch their mark and then the other CB who's Forward you are marking should then goto mark your man but this is only in certain situations and temporarily for that attack only. Usually the LCB marks the RW, the RCB the LW with the CCB marking their CF.

Remember when defending a corner or setpiece if your pre fails and you happen to have the ball at your feet, use a double-click high LMB pass up the field in the general direction of the Wingers or CF only if it was a dangerous set-piece very close to goal. Do not pass around in DF with space, that is just asking for trouble, get rid of that ball as soon as possible.

I have played very little 11's but when I have played more I will add more to this section. I am hoping for us to train 11's weekly with Liviroff FC.
